I was stuck in Orlando for a day recently. and I refused to pay $120 to go see the World of Wizardry at Universal Studios. So, I decided to checkout a local brewery. One Google search later, and I found myself at RockPit Brewing Company. I think that it was a wise decision.
The bartenders were really friendly and knowledgeable. The brewpub is, like many brewpubs, decked out in reclaimed wood; but the atmosphere was really pleasant. The star of the show was, of course, the beer. My favorite, of the beers I tried, was Diffusion, Smoked
Oatmeal Porter. The brewery is attached to a BBQ restaurant, and the oats are smoked there before being added to the mash. The beer has lots of chocolate and roasted notes, and a slight smokiness (is that a word?). It is a unique flavored beer that I would happily drink again.
Speaking of the BBQ place next door, they also provide the food for the pub. I had the smoked chicken tacos, and they were amazing!
While I was there I was introduced to some folks that were having a beer club meeting at the brewery. They invited to try some of the tasty beers they had brought to their meeting. Everyone was extremely warm and welcoming. It was a lot of fun.
The owners seem to really be enjoying what they are doing, and share their love for the craft with their customers. All in all a great experience and I highly recommend a visit if you are in the area. Oh and by the way several beers, tacos, and entertainment was the cost of just the ticket to Universal!
P.S. They also have a Homebrew supply store inside the brewery, if you’re so inclined.
